Biography

Bill Louden holds a PhD from the University of Toronto, and Arts and Education degrees from The University of Western Australia and Murdoch University. Prior to joining UWA he served in Pro Vice-Chancellor and executive dean roles at Edith Cowan University.

Professor Louden's research interests include literacy, standards and educational change. His most recent research projects have focussed on identifying the classroom teaching practices that make the greatest contribution to students' intellectual growth.

During 2005, Professor Louden was a member of the National Inquiry into the Teaching of Literacy. In 2006 he chaired the Western Australian Government's Literacy and Numeracy Review Taskforce. In 2007 he was appointed Chair of the Curriculum Council, Western Australian‘s statutory authority responsible for school curriculum and assessment. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators.

Biography

Cheryl Elisabeth Praeger, is currently a professor of mathematics at the University of Western Australia. She is best known for her works in group theory, algebraic graph theory and combinatorial designs.

Praeger received BSc and MSc degrees from the University of Queensland, and doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1973 under direction of Peter M. Neumann. She has published widely and has advised 17 Ph.D. students.

Praeger is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, former president of the Australian Mathematical Society (1992-1994), and a member of the Order of Australia (since 1999). She was awarded an honorary DSc by the Prince of Songkla University in 1993 and by the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2005.

Biography

Gaye McMath is Executive Director, Finance and Resources at The University of Western Australia and is responsible for Financial Services, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Venues Management, UWA Extension, UWA Press and the Perth International Arts Festival.

Prior to her appointment, she held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Resource Management) and Chief Financial Officer at Murdoch University. She was also a director on various University related companies associated with education, research, commercialisation of intellectual property and aged care.

Roles, responsibilities and expertise

She has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Melbourne and Masters of Business Administration from Melbourne Business School. She is a fellow of CPA Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Ms McMath is currently a Director of the Silver Chain Nursing Association, the Western Australian Treasury Corporation and Gold Corporation.

Biography

Chris commenced in the position of Principal at Currie Hall in September 2006. Prior to this appointment Chris had more than 12 years experience in the Education Sector encompassing secondary teaching, physical education, and managing an educational self esteem program within Australia and Singapore.

Chris has also had more than 5 years experience in the Health Sector, including two years at the Cancer Council of WA and three years as part of the WA Senior Executive team in Medicare Australia.

Chris has a Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE) and Diploma of Education (Dip.Ed) from The University of Westermn Australia and a Masters Of Business Administration from ECU. Chris is currently doing a Doctorate of Education (EdD) at The University of Western Australia.

Mr Alan Brien (Chair)

Biography

Alan is a graduate from the University of Western Australia where he completed a Master of Education.

He has held a diverse range of senior managerial positions including director of sport and recreation at the University of WA, promotions and programming manager at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, manager of Whiteman Park and director of visitor services at Kings Park. Alan now holds the position of CEO at Scitech.

Alan has been actively involved with the promotion of science and technology centres through his roles as president of the Australian Science and Technology Exhibitors Network (ASTEN), and the chairing of the National Science Partnership of Science Centres, Museums and Science Education Centres.

He is also a member of the Western Australian Premier’s Science and Innovation Council Education Working Group, a judge for the Australian Eureka Prizes and a former member of the PLC School Council in Perth. He is now chair of the Currie Hall Council at The University of Western Australia.

Biography

George was educated at Governor Stirling High School in Midland and Collinwood High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He subsequently completed degrees at University of Western Australia and the London School of Economics and Political Science. While an undergraduate he was a resident of Currie Hall between 1971 and 1973 – serving as a member of the Residents’ Association Executive in 1972 and 1973.

George was previously a management consulting partner with the international consulting and accounting firm Deloitte between 1990 and 2001. Before joining Deloitte, George was a director of the West Australian Public Service Commission and worked for 14 years as a career public servant in line and central agencies.

He continues his consulting interests through Cressida Consulting Pty Ltd – a company established in 2001 following his retirement from the Deloitte partnership. His business provides consulting and advisory services to government agencies and to a small number of incorporated or not-for-profit community organisations.

In community life he has served as a councillor in the City of Subiaco (1982-85), as a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Business and Administration at Curtin University (1985-90), and with various community, school and sporting organisations. He is a foundation member of the Western Force and a member of the Western Australian Rugby Union.

George has been a member of the Currie Hall Council since January 2009.
