Chair of Council
Alan is a graduate from the University of Western Australia where he completed a Master of Education.
He has held a diverse range of senior managerial positions including director of sport and recreation at the University of WA, promotions and programming manager at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, manager of Whiteman Park and director of visitor services at Kings Park. Alan now holds the position of CEO at Scitech.
Alan has been actively involved with the promotion of science and technology centres through his roles as president of the Australian Science and Technology Exhibitors Network (ASTEN), and the chairing of the National Science Partnership of Science Centres, Museums and Science Education Centres.
He is also a member of the Western Australian Premier’s Science and Innovation Council Education Working Group, a judge for the Australian Eureka Prizes and a former member of the PLC School Council in Perth. He is now chair of the Currie Hall Council at The University of Western Australia.

George was educated at Governor Stirling High School in Midland and Collinwood High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He subsequently completed degrees at University of Western Australia and the London School of Economics and Political Science. While an undergraduate he was a resident of Currie Hall between 1971 and 1973 – serving as a member of the Residents’ Association Executive in 1972 and 1973.
George was previously a management consulting partner with the international consulting and accounting firm Deloitte between 1990 and 2001. Before joining Deloitte, George was a director of the West Australian Public Service Commission and worked for 14 years as a career public servant in line and central agencies.
He continues his consulting interests through Cressida Consulting Pty Ltd – a company established in 2001 following his retirement from the Deloitte partnership. His business provides consulting and advisory services to government agencies and to a small number of incorporated or not-for-profit community organisations.
In community life he has served as a councillor in the City of Subiaco (1982-85), as a member of the Advisory Board of the School of Business and Administration at Curtin University (1985-90), and with various community, school and sporting organisations. He is a foundation member of the Western Force and a member of the Western Australian Rugby Union.
George has been a member of the Currie Hall Council since January 2009.
