Currie Hall offers you modern air-conditioned facilities with unlimited access to the internet and university online resourses.

Computer room

A modern, air-conditioned computer room is available 24 hours a day.

The computer room has 10 networked workstations, a network server, a proxy server and printers for University-related research and course assignments. The computers are linked to the University's network, and residents can access email and the internet. Software available for use includes Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office XP/2007.

Membership is open to all residents for a fee each year. Residents are asked to complete an application form at the front office. They will then receive notification of their access codes/passwords in a few days.

If you have your own computer

Residents with their own computers are able to access the internet and University network from their rooms. Currie Hall is connected to the ResNet internet service. Features are:

  • All rooms are connected to the network via an ethernet
  • Residents have access to the computer systems of the major WA universities, electronic mail, library catalogues and the internet
  • Residents may access to the UWA faculty and departmental computing resources (similar to the access they'd have in the university computer laboratories)

Currie Hall has student IT support to assist in any technical issues. Please see the front office for further details.

Telephones

Each student room in Currie Hall has a direct dial telephone. Residents may give their phone number to family and friends and receive calls at any time. A four-digit internal-extension number lets residents call room to room to speak with their friends at no charge. To view the current Resident phone extension list click here.

To make external calls, pre-paid phone cards must be used. For local calls we recommend the Telstra phone-away card which offers untimed local calls. These are for sale at the front office.

For overseas calls, a choice of phone cards, including mobile re-charge cards, are available to purchase from any news agency. Up-to-date information on the call costs to different areas/countries is available at the machine. Call rates are very reasonable; for example, calls to Singapore are just two cents a minute, and the US and UK cost five cents a minute.

A gold public phone is located in the foyer of A House.

Local calls cost 50 cents; country codes, time differences and other calling information may be viewed on the White Pages website.
