Currie Hall

Social and sporting

How to apply

We know the ultimate goal of attending University and residing in College is academic success, but there is a lot of fun to be had along the way!

Currie Hall is dedicated to providing opportunities for our residents to have a balanced lifestyle; one that includes an enjoyable recreational, sporting and social life.

Much of the social and sporting life of Currie Hall is organised by the Residents' Club (a committee made up of residents elected by their peers in second semester to govern the following year).

The Club provides a full program of activities throughout the academic year to ensure Currie Hall residents get to know each other as well as residents from other colleges.

The following are just a sample of the activities on offer at Currie Hall throughout the year:

  • Floor group activities: each Residential Adviser at Currie Hall plans activities with the residents on their floor or in their house. These can include outings and events for those residents, plus a Hall event involving other residents at Currie Hall. Special dinners, trips to Rottnest and movie nights are some of the favourites.
  • International Night - This annual events falls in second semester and is an evening that embraces the many different cultures and people who call Currie Hall home. Residents plan the entire event, including performances, entertainment and decorations, to entertain fellow residents and special guests over dinner.
  • Balls - The Currie Hall Residents' Club host a glitzy ball during second semester each year.
  • The Residents' Club also produce a periodical magazine "Hallmark", and an annual magazine "Autonomia".

The Hall has two upright pianos, one in The Blue Room and one in The Dining Hall - both available for resident use throughout the day and evening. Other rooms are available for residents to practise their musical instruments, please just ask at the office.

Sporting

A wide range of sporting competitions is organised throughout the year.

The female residents compete for the WICSA Cup and the male residents for the Nicholson Cup. In addition, the University Sport and Recreation Centre, which is just across the road through the underpass, organises and hosts many sports programs and clubs.

Activities at the Sports Centre include weight training, aerobics, pump classes, martial arts, racquet games, outdoor education activities and a wide selection of indoor and outdoor sporting teams, along with a gymnasium. There is also a sports shop at which substantial discounts are available all year (but especially during their regular sales) for Sports Card holders.

Currie Hall's multi-purpose court is extremely popular amongst our residents. It is a full-sized, flood-litm, multi-purpose tennis and basketball court, and is available for resident use from early morning until 10pm at night. The court has also proved popular for hard-court games of soccer.
